These days, a mix of genres called “belicore” is circulating on social media, which could potentially stir controversy among purist metal fans.

It’s becoming increasingly common on social media to encounter blends of musical genres, and recently, “belicore” has emerged as one such blend that might raise eyebrows among die-hard metalheads.

But what exactly is it? Well, according to a user identified as Jaka or Djack A, a guitarist and music producer from Zacatecas, Mexico, “belicore” combines a metal guitar style with a genre known as “corridos tumbados.”

These “corridos tumbados” have gained popularity among younger generations, particularly those who have embraced platforms like TikTok.

So, what are “corridos tumbados” exactly? Originating from northern Mexico and the United States, they were pioneered by Dan Sánchez, a composer from Sonora, who claims credit for this genre in an interview with Pepe Garza, a renowned producer of regional Mexican music in the United States. Sánchez mentions that it was singer Natanael Cano who helped bring them to prominence.
